Iwaki is the northernmost place in Japan where native hinoki cypress grows wild. Unvarnished and natural, these pencils carry the wood’s crisp, citrusy fragrance and pair it with Japanese graphite that offers satisfying tactile feedback. Because each pencil comes from wild-harvested wood the core may be off-centre, so we recommend a rotary or knife sharpener to avoid lead breakage.
Iwaki Takahashi is a Japanese manufacturer founded in August 2010 originally making disposable chopsticks from thinned wood from local mountains. They now create pencils from an abandoned school building originally founded in 1885.
